Join us at a Press Conference to Celebrate the 20-year Anniversary of the Implementation of the Family Medical Leave Act
On Monday, August 5, workers and their families across the Country will hold nationwide events to commemorate the 20-year anniversary of the implementation of the first federal law that guaranteed Americans protected time to care for loved ones. FMLA offers 12 week of unpaid, job-protected leave, which workers can use to care for a new baby, a sick family member, or to recover from an illness.
We will also celebrate and thank the Miami-Dade County Commission for being the first government in the Country to pass a countywide Family Medical Leave Bill locally in 1991, 2 years before President Clinton signed the federal FMLA into law. Miami-Dade County Commissioner Audrey Edmondson will speak about the local ground-breaking bill.
Representatives from the South Florida Congressional Delegation, Miami-Dade County Commission for Women, U.S. Department of Labor leaders and workers will all speak about the economic and family benefits of FMLA and call on Congress to expand work-family protections.
