To State Rep. Michelle Rehwinkel Vasilinda From Governor Scott’s Office – The Response

As shared on the Florida Public Employees Facebook page, Governor Scott’s responds to State Rep. Rehwinkel Vasilinda’s request in honor of the service provided by State Employees.

From the Governor’s Office:

As we approach the holidays I wanted to thank you for your hard work and the daily commitment you’ve shown during the past year to the citizens of Florida. It is truly an honor for me to serve as Governor knowing that we have a talented group of state employees who make our state better for visitors, businesses and families. You should be proud of the progress we have achieved this year.

During the past year, you have helped reduce our state unemployment rate significantly. Florida has seen the largest decrease in the country in almost two years. We are paying down the state debt for the first time in 20 years, and we are investing in and improving our education system – now ranked number one in the nation for teacher quality and 9th lowest for college tuition.

In recognition and sincere thanks for your dedication, I have directed the Secretary of the Department of Management Services to close all state executive buildings on December 24, 2012. Employees not required to work that day will be granted paid administrative leave. Because there are essential services that the state must provide, those employees who are required to work on December 24 will be permitted to take an equivalent amount of administrative leave within the next six months.

On a very personal note, many of you know that my mother, Esther, and both of my wife’s parents passed away this year. Such events are a reminder of the importance of friends and family and that each day is a gift. I hope this extra day will help you to enjoy an even greater holiday season with those you love.
