Touching words from a father, firefighter, and fellow Public Employee.
By: Dean Parkerson
Man it was such a great day! I was young and nervous!mind you this was the only job I ever wanted to do. I had spent the previous six years trying to get hired. I had been in the fire academy less than a month.
Back then If you were late you could loose your job! My wife Karen and I had been at the hospital since 11 pm. Her labor pains had grown very strong around 5:30 am. I had to report to the training facility by 7:30 am, or face the possibility of losing my job. I hauled ass to the Miami-Dade training facility from Hollywood Memorial Hospital around 6:30 am.
I was freaking out, hanging out hoping to get permission to go be with my wife. Lead instructed Jim Barrette showed up early as always. He saw me pacing around and asked me WTF was going on?
I told him Karen was about to give birth, and I really wanted permission to go to the Hospital. He asked me WTF was I doing looking at him? He directed me to get my ass to the hospital!
I arrived at the hospital 7:46, I was advised that Karen had given birth at 7:21. That was when I got to hold and kiss and thank God for Meagan my first child.
Thank you God, Karen, And Meagan! The last 26 years have been so awesome!!
Happy Birthday Meagan!!!!!
Thanks for 26 amazing, wonderful years! Mom and I are very proud of you.
